Halloween is always a fun time to see a show, because you never know what to expect. I did not expect to have a camera in my face for a potential Alice in Chains DVD release being filmed that evening… so if it’s ever released… look for the tall handsome fellow flipping-off the camera crew.
One thing I love about going to concerts is being exposed to bands I’ve never seen or heard before. Tonight, it was a band named HURT. HURT put a lot of energy and emotion into pulling-off a great show for this crowd. I can’t imagine that it’s been an easy task opening for AIC on this tour, but I think they performed very well. Cool lighting effects too.

Alice in Chains put on a phenomenal performance. William DuVall seemed more comfortable on stage since I last saw them in August. This is noteworthy, because that show was also fantastic. Only on Halloween do you get to see a guy dressed up as Capt. Spaulding crowd surfing, and another guy waving his prosthetic leg above his head all night. Security had their hands full with the crowd surfers, as one almost crashed onto the stage and into Mike.
One of the highlights of the night was an extensive video tribute to Layne Staley that was played while the stage was prepped for an acoustic performance. The acoustic performance was another amazing highlight. The audience was also treated to an extended encore, probably so some extra DVD footage could be filmed.
I could not have asked for a better show. I hope that this tour and the potential DVD, are signs of new and exciting things to come for Alice in Chains. William has proven himself to be a capable front-man if ever Alice in Chains were to unite again.
Also, I’m going to buy the HURT album. They deserve another listen.
