Lupo’s
Providence, RI
The club was nearly packed early, before any of the bands started playing. You could feel the buzz in the venue. The people were hungry for music and preparing for a feast.
The First band up was Safety Suit. There set was very good. It was clear to see how their performance would entice people not familiar with their music to go out and buy their album, Life Left To Go, or check them out online. The music was not as heavy as the rest of the bill but the crowd loved it.
The next band to take the stage was Sick Puppies. Every time I write about this band I never do their performance justice. Their set is mind-blowing. First, one must note their great musicianship. The rhythm section of Goodwin and Anzai is one of the best in rock today. Shimon Moore is an extremely energetic front-man. He spends a lot of time getting the crowd involved in the show, which makes the whole thing just that much more exciting to watch. The set included a few cover songs, including the one they may be best known for, Destiny Child’s “Say My Name”. You must see this band live.
When the curtain dropped during Seether‘s first song, the crowd erupted. Their set was packed with one great song after another, from “Gasoline” to “Fake It”. Seether takes care to make sure they’re really putting on a great show for their fans, but don’t expect to go to their show to hear songs exactly how they appear on the album. The guys like to tailor the songs to suit the live performance, especially during the transitions.
One of the highlights of the set was when the play the Stone Temple Pilots classic “Creep” with Emma Anzai joining them to play bass while Dale Stewart played acoustic guitar. Shaun Morgan has always been a strong vocalist, but it’s during moments like this where you can see him continuing to develop his skills. Also, Troy McLawhorn has settled into his role as the second guitarist.
We all left the club with our appetites satisfied… but like anything so good, we still want more.
