Review:
There are many, many metal-core bands out there churning out the same formulaic songs over and over again. Very few stand out in the sea of noise, but once in a while there is a shining beacon that draws you in. So, pay attention, because Straight Line Stitch is releasing a new album, and it is well worth every moment of your attention that it demands.
The music is tight and well produced. The sound moves seamlessly from heavy and raw, like driving a nail through your skull, to more streamlined and polish metal compositions. Some bands fall flat on their face when trying to sound more complex by breaking up the flow of the music because they want to sound like better song-writers than they really are. Not so in this case.
Much of the credit goes to vocalist Alexis Brown. She’s a metal-core triple threat; she’s hot, screams her ass off, and can really sing too. Brown has great control over her pipes, conveying an excellent balance of control and emotion. I’d actually like to hear her sing more and scream less, but the music would lose its edge. Luckily for us, the ballad “Yesterday’s Gone” provides a good sample of her great vocal skill.
Metal-core bands of the world, you’re on notice. Straight Line Stitch is going to kick your ass.
