Joshua Radin will head out on a short co-headlining tour with Dar running January 21st through February 7th. He’ll embark on a more extensive headlining tour thereafter, with a series of U.S. and international dates that will keep him on the road through March. Radin will kick things off with a special in-store performance at Virgin Records on January 20th. He is touring behind his new album, Simple Times, which hit No. 1 on both iTunes’ Album and Alternative charts within 48 hours of its release and went on to debut at No. 34 on The Billboard 200. The release is currently #20 at iTunes’ Alternative chart. The album – which has earned Radin a spot in iTunes’ “Indie Spotlight: Singer Songwriter – Best of 2008″ feature – has sold over 50,000 copies since its September 2008 release.
Sales of individual album tracks have surpassed 150,000, including 90,000+ digital downloads of the lead single, “I’d Rather Be With You,” which goes for adds at Hot AC radio February 2nd. The accompanying video – shot with old Super 8 and Polaroid cameras – was directed by Zach Braff (“Scrubs,” “Garden State”), a college friend of Radin’s. It features Katrina Bowden from “30 Rock.” “One of Those Days,” another song on the album, will be Starbucks’ and iTunes’ “Pick of the Week” beginning January 13th.
Tracks from Simple Times will be heard on “Scrubs” (which moves to ABC) and the hit Fox series “Bones” early next year as well as in the upcoming summer 2009 feature films Post Grad and I Love You Beth Cooper. Radin’s songs have already been featured this season on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “One Tree Hill” (three episodes), “90210″ and “Brothers & Sisters.”
Radin, who has been tapped for Barnes & Noble’s new event series, “Discover,” has performed on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “The Bonnie Hunt Show.” And he’s appeared twice this season on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” – he was featured in footage from DeGeneres’ wedding to Portia de Rossi (he sang at the ceremony) and then performed for the studio audience on a later show.
Simple Times, which is the follow-up to Radin’s acclaimed 2006 debut, We Were Here, was produced by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith). It features guest appearances by Patty Griffin and Meiko and is the first release from mom & pop music co., Q Prime’s recently launched independent label.
