Review:
In This Moment’s The Dream marks a departure from their metal-core roots. The new musical direction presents a rewarding experience for the band and its fans.
The most notable change in the band’s sound is how they’ve crafted the songs to allow singer Maria Brink to strut her vocal chops. It was clear on Beautiful Tragedy that she could sing, but her work on the The Dream helps dispel any doubt. Not only can she sing, she sings well.
It’s fair (or possibly not fair) to say that any female fronted band in this genre is going to be compared to the top act. In This Moment’s music sounds a lot like Evanescence, which if you like that style of music is not a bad thing. It’s actually probably better because the vocals don’t grate on nerves after 3 songs.
This is a solid and well-produced album. The band deserves a great deal of credit for successfully putting together an effort that demonstrates a lot of growth and improvement over than their last album, Beautiful Tragedy.
