(New York, NY) – Roadrunner Records new recording artist, Young the Giant (formerly The Jakes) are headed into the studio to record their debut album. At the helm will be Grammy award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket). The band will be recording in Los Angeles and plan for the album to be released this summer.

Frontman Sameer Gadhia says, “We are set to work with one of our greatest musical inspirations, Grammy Award winning producer, Joe Chiccarelli. This will be our first effort with a major label push, and we can’t think of anyone else more suited for the task than Joe. We have much to learn from him, and now, with 95% of our album written, we can’t wait to make this final and most crucial step.”

Prior to commencing recording, Young the Giant will be playing select shows in southern California. The dates are:

1/11 – Casbah, San Diego (w/Alberta Cross)
1/12 – Detroit Bar, Costa Mesa (w/Alberta Cross)
1/14 – Troubadour, LA (w/Alberta Cross)

Hailing from Newport Beach, CA, the 5 piece band has been making music together since high school. Influenced by Kings of Leon, The Strokes and The Shins, among others, the band has crafted its own unique “sun-soaked indie rock” sound. Having grown together musically for several years, Young the Giant self- released Shake My Hand EP under their former moniker, The Jakes, in 2008. As the band has existed since the members were in high school, a natural amount of change has taken place. The members have decided that a name change would be more representative of their current state of mind, creative process and musical growth. The band has shared bills with The Whigs, Ghostland Observatory and Kings of Leon, and have a rapidly growing fanbase (over 1 million plays on MySpace).
