The Boxer Rebellion are proud to announce their debut headline tour of North America. As a tour being presented by FILTER with supporting act Amusement Parks on Fire, the tour will kick-off Sept. 21 in Philadelphia, PA, and will take in two special performances in New York City at Bowery Ballroom (Sept. 23) and The Bell House (Sept. 25), a dual appearance at FILTER‘s Culture Collide Festival in Los Angeles, CA (Oct 8 and 10), and a very special appearance in Maryville, TN, (frontman Nathan Nicholson’s hometown) on Oct. 12.
In addition to the upcoming US tour, The Boxer Rebellion recently premiered the music video for “If You Run,” an exclusive song recorded for major motion picture titled “Going the Distance,” a film that features the band within the storyline and stars Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and more. The video for the band’s epic ballad can be viewed below:
Four years post their critically-acclaimed debut Exits, alt-rock quartet The Boxer Rebellion, proclaimed by NME as a band that “can alter your life,” self-released their sophomore album, Union, digitally while still in day jobs. Recipient of the first global iTunes “Single of the Week,” lead track, “Evacuate,” generated a staggering 560,000 free downloads, propelling Union to No. 1 on the iTunes Alternative Album Chart and within the Top 5 of iTunes’ US and UK Albums charts. At times the album was outselling the likes of Kings of Leon, The Killers, and Coldplay, and also knocked My Morning Jacket off the iTunes US Alternative Chart top-spot. The Boxer Rebellion are the first unsigned band in history to break into the Billboard Top 200 Charts (No. 82) with a digital only release, and Union currently holds the accolade of being named iTunes’ “Alternative Album of the Year” for 2009.
The Boxer Rebellion recently recorded the follow up to Union with Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne, etc.) at Real World Studios in the UK and have plans for an early 2011 release.
Additionally, the band will be playing themselves in the upcoming Drew Barrymore/Justin Long film titled “Going the Distance” and have three songs on the soundtrack. The soundtrack for “Going the Distance” features new music from The Boxer Rebellion, a haunting new track from LA’s The Airborne Toxic Event, and also boasts a great mix of indie-rock tastemakers such as Cat Power, Band of Skulls, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Passion Pit and Generationals, intermingled with music from The Cure, The Pretenders and The Replacements, among others. The “Going the Distance” soundtrack will be available in stores and online via WaterTower Music on August 24.
