Candlebox Brew Up Some Rock and Roll in Connecticut
August 7, 2012 by Kristen Pierson
The line started forming early to get into the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den, and the energy was high as the fans’ excitement was building up for the show. The venue, which seats only about 300 people, filled up quickly when the doors opened, and there wasn’t a bad seat in the house.
Candlebox’s set was a healthy mix of songs from all five of the band’s studio albums, including four tracks from their latest release, Love Stories and Other Musings; “Believe In It,” “Sweet Summertime,” “Turn Your Heart Around,” and “She Come Over Me.” The new tracks sound incredible live and are great additions to their set.
The band’s performance is as strong as it’s ever been. It’s difficult to put into words the level of energy and showmanship they put into their show. Kevin Martin can still wail in ways that many up-and-coming singers only dream of. And the consummate showman did his best to make sure the crowd was fully engaged by encouraging everyone to sing along, which they were doing loudly to every tune. He even jumped into the crowd during the performances of “Simple Lessons,” and “Stand,” taking the time to shake hands with everyone he could as he may his way around the venue.
This is what a rock show is supposed to be, lesson learned.
