Nickelback Rock Band Release June 29th

(Cambridge, MA) – Harmonix and MTV Games today announced that Canadian rockers Nickelback will make their Rock Band debut next week in the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360^® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation^®3 computer entertainment system and Wii^™.

With more than 400 artists, including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, AC/DC and Green Day, who are exclusive to Rock Band, as well as more than 1,500 songs available through the Rock Band platform and 70 million songs sold through its download store alone, Rock Band is the undisputed sales and content leader in the interactive music space, providing the deepest and best selection of artists, songs and albums.

Rock Band DLC additions for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii

Alternative rockers Nickelback, formed in 1995 in Canada, are the 11^th best-selling act of the 2000s, with more than 30 million records sold worldwide. The band will make their debut in Rock Band next week with a six pack of songs.

“Nickelback Pack 01” will include “Burn It to the Ground” and “This Afternoon” from 2008’s album, Dark Horse, which has held a place in the Top 100 of the Billboard 200 since its release last year. Also included are “Photograph” and “Rockstar” from 2005’s All the Right Reasons, which was certified eight-times platinum in the United States in October 2009, making it one of the best-selling albums in U.S. history. “Figured You Out” from 2003’s three-time platinum The Long Road and “Never Again” from 2001’s six-time platinum Silver Side Up will also be featured in “Nickelback Pack 01.”

HIM To Release Three Rock Band Tracks

(Burbank, CA) – On February 23rd, Finland’s hard-rock heroes HIM and Sire/Reprise teamed up with MTV Games and Harmonix to release a brand-new downloadable content of three HIM tracks, including their new single “Heartkiller,” for the Rock Band™ Music Store in connection with HIM being Xbox’s featured artist for the month of March. The other downloadable tracks are “Ode to Solitude” and “Wings of a Butterfly.”

Now the band is asking their fans around the world to help them set the record for the largest global Rock Band performance in history. On March 25th fans can make a video of themselves performing “Heartkiller” between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET and upload it to the HIM’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/him) within 24 hours beginning at 10 p.m. ET to be entered into an official contest at which time the members of HIM will choose the Top 5 best performance videos. Roadrunner Records To Release Digital EP For God Of War

(New York, NY) – ROADRUNNER RECORDS announced plans to release an exclusive digital extended play (EP) soundtrack for the highly anticipated PlayStation®3 (PS3™) exclusive videogame, God of War ®III. The EP, titled God of War®: Blood & Metal, will be released in March as a part of the God of War III® Ultimate Edition, and will feature five exclusive unreleased songs from Roadrunner artists, including KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, DREAM THEATER, TRIVIUM, OPETH and TAKING DAWN.

Consumers who purchase the God of War III Ultimate Edition will receive a voucher code to download the tracks, as well as downloadable music in the form of the God of War Trilogy soundtrack. Sick Puppies To Host Consumer Gameplay Session with WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2010

No Doubt Sue Over Band Hero Deal Gone Wrong

No Doubt are taking legal action against the creators of Band Hero in a bid to have their likenesses removed from the release of the new videogame after manufacturers reportedly failed to stick to their agreement.

The “Don’t Speak” hitmakers signed a deal with Activision bosses to feature as avatars singing three No Doubt tracks, but, in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Gwen Stefani and her bandmates claim the company reneged on the deal by allowing the digital stars to “sing, dance and perform over sixty songs” from all kinds of artists, “transforming No Doubt band members into a virtual karaoke circus act”.

The quartet, comprised of Stefani, Tony Kanal, Adrian Young and Tom Dumont, are particularly incensed that Stefani’s computer character can sing in a male voice for renditions of tracks like the Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Woman.”

The court documents state: “While No Doubt are avid fans of the Rolling Stones and even have performed in concerts with the Rolling Stones, the Character Manipulation Feature results in an unauthorized performance by the Gwen Stefani avatar in a male voice choir boasting about having sex with prostitutes.”

And the stars fear the use of unauthorized songs will taint their pop image: “Activision has deceived and confused the public into believing that No Doubt authorized the use of its name and likeness for the Character Manipulation Feature of Band Hero and that No Doubt approves and endorses the appearance of its members individually performing songs that are wholly inappropriate and out of character for No Doubt.”

The band is seeking to withdraw its endorsement of the game, a spin-off from the popular Guitar Hero series, and the stars are requesting an injunction prohibiting “the unauthorized use of No Doubt’s name and likeness” in Band Hero, in addition to unspecified damages.

The band’s manager Jim Guerinot tells Rolling Stone magazine that Gwen Stefani and her bandmates were “mortified” to discover their avatars in the new videogame could be used to sing songs by other artists.

He says, “They’re just like, ‘What? We didn’t sign up for this.’”

No Doubt are suing Activision bosses for fraudulent inducement and breach of contract. In legal documents, the group reveals it raised concerns with Activision bosses, who refused to correct the game. The band states, “An Activision executive asserted that (changing the game) would be too expensive and would jeopardize their revenue.”

Wrath of Killenstein Music Featured in Brutal Legend Videogame

(NEW YORK, NY) – Wrath of Killenstein, the New York-based horror/metal quartet whose self-titled debut album garnered a four skulls review from Rue Morgue magazine and whose music Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles dubbed as a Halloween “essential,” will have their song “Igniisis Dance” featured in the forthcoming Brütal Legend (Electronic Arts, Oct. 13) video game.

“It is a tremendous honor to have my music included with and featured alongside the greatest heavy metal bands ever,” said Killenstein.

Fronted by the thorn-clad Killenstein, the group also features well-known industrial drummer John “Servo” Desalvo (KMFDM, Bile) and guitar player Joe Coffey.

Wrath of Killenstein is currently completing work on a new album titled St. 7000, which is slated for a Spring 2010 release as well as putting the finishing touches on a series of Killenstein graphic novels. The band embarks on an East Coast tour in October.
