Brooklyn, NY’s Mightier Than Sword Records has signed Worcester, MA indie rock outfit LUNCH and will be releasing the band’s self-titled digital EP on October 11.

LUNCH recorded their first song somewhere in the midst of a bender in January 2011. Ben, Bill, and Rob did their best to wake Danny up of the floor of a friend’s bathroom to record his guitar parts, which he still does not remember. The band heard their song a few days later, and decided to keep the bender going and the songs coming. They called in a few favors (indie darling DOM produced and provides guest vocals on the song “Disappear”), banged out a few songs in their rudimentary practice space, and prepared their first EP. Cheap food, cheap beer– LUNCH lives the pool life, and want nothing more than to compose the perfect soundtrack to their non stop party. “Chugga-chugga CHOO CHOO” Hop aboard, hope you’re hungry!!!

LUNCH “self-titled” tracklisting:

01. Turn Around
02. Narragansett
03. Disappear (feat. DOM)
04. Mimosa
05. Ellen

LUNCH’s “Disappear” (featuring DOM) is now streaming on the band’s Facebook page. Have a listen at: www.facebook.com/Lunchhh.

Fast-forward to present day, with several recording and many years of live gigs under their belt, Totem sounds better than ever. On their latest release, the band’s thirst for musical exploration has been combined with a well-honed sense of song-writing. They have a knack for creating something slightly unconventional, and unexpected.

Totem’s self-titled EP, which was recorded at 37’ Productions by Sean McLaughlin, can be found on the band’s website and on bandcamp. I highly recommend that you check out Totem’s recorded music, and definitely get to a show if you can.

Tragic Hero Records is pleased to announce the signing of New Milford, CT’s Brighter Than A Thousand Suns.

The band’s label debut, Survival Machines, will be recorded in Baltimore, MD with Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Senses Fail, Circa Survive) and will be released on September 20, 2011.

Brighter Than a Thousand Suns have been quick to build a name for themselves with energetic verses, epic choruses and bone-crushing breakdowns which quickly reached out to fans across the Northeast. Since forming in 2007, the band has appeared on the Vans Warped Tour and was featured in AP Magazine before they even released their debut EP “The Demon Haunted World”, produced by Paul Leavitt. During that time, the band also kept busy with regional touring, recording and appearances on the PacSun Tour with Saosin.

With Angelika Hirtler’s fire-spitting screams and soaring melodies, Alex Anderson’s haunting voice, Matt Richter and Randy Roswell’s intricate rhythms, genre-bending guitar riffs and ghostly ambient textures, they bring something fresh and honest to the table with a strong work ethic to match.

Boston dream-folk artist, Marissa Nadler has announced US tour dates with Canadian band Timber Timbre, as well as an initial performance with Low in her hometown at the end of April. She will be touring behind her forthcoming fifth full-length album, the first to be released via her very own label Box of Cedar Records. Produced by Brian McTear, the self-titled LP is set to be released on June 14.

Before stepping out on her own, launching a successful Kickstarter campaign where devoted fans donated to support her latest recorded effort and offering a string of hand-painted records and original artwork via Etsy, Marissa released her last two critically-acclaimed efforts, Songs III: Bird on the Water (2007) and Little Hells (2009) with Kemado Records. The label’s vinyl start-up Mexican Summer was also named after one of her songs.

When you listen to as much music as I do, both good and bad, both local and national, it becomes easier and easier to hear the bands with a special spark. Kanerko definitely has that spark.

There music is heavy and driven, and their songwriting is mature, yet fresh. Al Diaz brings power and unique presence to the songs’ vocals, which really makes the band’s music stand out above many others in the Northeast music scene.

Be sure to stay tuned for more music, as Kanerko is gearing up to hit the studio in March 2011 to record their next release.

Kevin Marz – Bass
Nick Iddon – Drums

Bio:
Stemming from the Northeastern corridor of the United States of America, comes four individuals who pride themselves on delivering their loud and unapologetic brand of heavy Rock N’ Roll. Collectively they are known as KANERKO.

Lead by Al “Mahoney” Diaz (vocals), who brings nothing but pure energy and passion to the stage. With lyrics fueled by love and life’s everyday obstacles. His unique and melodic way of expressing himself and his vocal chords is a sight to be seen. Anthony Palumbo (guitar) with his less is more attitude, has plenty to bring to the table. Strumming away violently as if possessed by the music. Anthony delivers that distinct Kanerko sound that leaves listeners begging for more. Holding down the low end is Kevin Marz (bass) who brings forth a ground shaking and heart pounding bass sound. His larger than life persona and even larger sound is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Where would Kanerko be without their most explosive member Nick Iddon (drums). Nick rounds out the quartet bringing forth a controlled chaos of many different drum beats and funks grooves, making for a complete and amazing rock spectacle!

Kanerko has shared the stage with national acts: Type O Negative, Trivium, Hurt, Sponge, Seemless, RA, All That Remains, Sick Puppies, Ankla, Kilgore, Brand New Sin, Danko Jones, and Nonpoint. Kanerko has also had the privilege of recording with Life Of Agony’s Joey Z in his METHOD OF GROOVE STUDIO in Brooklyn New York. Kanerko has also recorded in Damage Studio’s with mastermind Pete Rutcho (Unearth, Seemless). Their debut CD SHOWTIME was co-produced by Unearth’s and Kingdom of Sorrow’s Derek Kerswill.

Review:

Seasoned musicians and songwriters, life has taken the members of the Massachusetts-based trio Birdsong At Morning (Alan Williams, Darleen Wilson, and Greg Porter) on life’s varied paths, but now finds them returning to their passion for music. Over the past couple years, in a seemingly prolific frenzy, the band released four EPs, which are now being offered as a complete box set. This deluxe box set, Annals of My Glass House, includes remasters of the band’s four recordings (Bound, Heavens, Vigil, and Lumens), with a 48-page book featuring lyrics and photos, and illuminating essays by band leader Alan Williams. The set’s twenty-five songs totals two hours of music.

Simple and lush, delicate and powerful, Birdsong At Morning’s music incorporates layers of acoustic guitars, bass, percussion, and strings with Williams’ vocals stitching together a binding melody above it all. The music is refreshing, not emulating a sound or feel, because it naturally takes its own form. Beautiful and demure, artful but never pretentious.

Nathan Moore will support ALO on ten West Coast dates during their 5th annual Tour d’Amour in February. Moore has also left a week open on his West Coast schedule for a spontaneous Hippy Fiasco Rides Again run.

Boston-based rock quartet Mean Creek is excited to announce the release of its new EP titled Hemophiliac. Recently recorded in Brooklyn, NY, and produced in conjunction with legendary producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., The Hold Steady, etc.), Hemophiliac is now available for FREE download via the band’s Bandcamp page HERE.

Released on the heels of the band’s critically-acclaimed 7″ titled The Comedian, Hemophiliac is yet another solid addition to the band’s burgeoning catalog of raw and epic rock. Recently named “Best Boston Act” by the readers of The Boston Phoenix and receiving nominations at this year’s Boston Music Awards for “Album of the Year” and “Song of the Year” for their track “The Comedian,” Mean Creek entered the studio earlier this month with Agnello once again to capture their distinct live sound and energy onto recording. The result of this recent session is the expansive four-song Hemophiliac EP, a confident rock statement that easily stands as the band’s most determined work to date due the anthemic and highly-emotional cuts contained within.

Hemophiliac EP tracklisting:

Sunlight

I’m So Afraid

No One Has To Know

Say You Care

Upcoming appearances:
January 29 – Brighton Music Hall – Boston, MA
February 5 – Pianos – New York, NY
