The 10-track release is extraordinarily imaginative and deeply introspective, touching on a range of subjects including space expeditions (“Time Bending“), criminal infamy (“We Could Be Arsonists“), line-up changes (“The Legion” and “Walk Out“) and even monsters under the bed (“Monsters“).  Written during singer/guitarist Kylee Swenson Gordon’s pregnancy (with bass player Anthony Gordon) the album also delves into incredibly personal chapters with songs like “Seeds,”  ”Change of Scenery” and “Up Late.”

“We’ve never been the kind of band that writes traditional love songs,” says Kylee Swenson Gordon. “Instead, we always seem to fall down the rabbit hole, stumbling into surreal territory wherever we go.”

We Could Be Arsonists was recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, Calif. with the band co-producing the set with the Rondo Brothers (Foster the People, Deltron 3030, Handsome Boy Modeling School).  The album was mixed by Dave Pensado (Mary J. Blige, Beyonce), Count (DJ Shadow), Glenn Rosenstein (Madonna, Talking Heads) and Ben Ellman (Galactic).  Dave Cooley (M83, Silversun Pickups) mastered the album.

DragonForce guitarist Herman Li said, “The last two years have been the most fun we ever had making an album. Through writing, jamming and touring together, we have built this incredible energy and it has been fully captured on the new album.”

Li also claims the album boasts the fastest song the band has ever recorded. He continued, “This time around we’ve really brought our metal side to the surface and made some of the best music of our career. From the fastest song we’ve ever recorded to the slower songs, and some things you would never expect from us, this is by far the most diverse DragonForce album yet.”

About the tour, Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt, in his trademark deadpan wit, stated, “We’re touring North America together with Mastodon soon. Nice! One of the very few metal bands of today that I genuinely like. Good people too!  Ghost are coming with us as well, and they are one of the hottest new bands to come out of Sweden in recent years, and I dig them too. I sound like an old fart, don’t I? Well, I am.”

He continued, “Yet, am I right in thinking that this tour, this line up, is pretty decent? Would you all agree? Not complete shit, is it? Hope to see y’all out there! What are we playing? Landline‘s 11 new tracks were recorded by Laswell in a church-turned-house in a small lobstering town in down-east Maine. Laswell’s nomadic tendencies caused him to relocate from Los Angeles to New York City, eventually ending up at the church-turned-house that is owned by his wife’s parents. The album’s title was inspired by the fact that the home-recording-studio had no cell-phone reception, forcing Laswell to use landlines for all of his calls.

The album features collaborations with a number of well-known female singers, including Ingrid Michaelson, Sia, Elizabeth Ziman (of Elizabeth and the Catapult) and Sara Bareilles (on the album’s lead single ‘Come Back Down.’) Inspired by hip-hop records that he was listening to while writing and recording the album, Laswell decided he wanted to work with and feature female vocals alongside his own. Each singer brings a new element and personality to the songs, whether it’s Bareilles’ energy that caused Laswell to need to re-record his vocals, or the fact that he co-wrote the album’s title track with Ingrid Michaelson when the power went out one night.
