The songs on Shallow Bay are culled from the band’s catalog: 2002’s Saturate, 2004’s We Are Not Alone, 2006’s Phobia, and 2009’s Dear Agony. The second two—We Are Not Alone and Phobia—yielded spectacular results with each being certified Platinum. We Are Not Alone spawned a pair of No. 1 radio hits (“So Cold” and “Sooner Or Later”) and sold 2.3 million units (albums and digital tracks). Phobia debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top 200, hit No. 1 on the Rock Album Chart and was one of the top 50 selling rock albums of 2006. It featured one No. 1 and two Top Five rock radio hits (“Breath,” “Diary of Jane” and “Until The End”) and sold 2.8 million units (albums and digital tracks). 2009’s Dear Agony debuted #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart on one of the busiest release days of the year and #1 on the iTunes Rock Album Chart. Dear Agony also spun off a #1 song at Active Rock with “I Will Not Bow” where it stayed #1 for five weeks straight.

The band’s most recent release Life Starts Now debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 charts making it the highest debut ever for the band. “Break” the first single from Life Starts Now has reached #1 on the Active Rock BDS Charts and Top 5 at Mainstream Rock.

The Toronto-based rock band is comprised of Adam Gontier (vocals, guitar), Neil Sanderson (drums, piano), Brad Walst (bass), and Barry Stock (lead guitar).

Their first album, the self titled Three Days Grace, was released in 2003. The album generated three hit singles, “I Hate Everything About You” which reached #2 on the Mediabase Modern Rock charts and Top 5 on the Mediabase Mainstream Rock charts, “Just Like You” which went to #1 on both the Mediabase Modern Rock and Mediabase Mainstream Rock charts, and “Home” which went to #2 on the Mediabase Mainstream Rock charts.

One-X, the band’s sophomore album was released in 2006 and debut on the Billboard Album Chart at #5. That album also produced three #1 Mediabase Mainstream Rock singles “Animal I’ve Become,” “Pain” and “Never Too Late.”

For 2007 Mediabase ranked Three Days Grace as the # 1 artist in airplay across all rock formats (Modern Rock, Active Rock, Mainstream Rock). That same year R&R/Billboard also ranked Three Days Grace as #1 Active Rock Artist of the Year, #1 Rock Artist of the Year and #2 Modern Rock/Alternative Artist of the Year.

Both Three Days Grace and One-X have been certified Platinum. Three Days Grace has sold over 4 million albums worldwide.

The latest single from Dark Horse, “Never Gonna Be Alone,” is already top 15 at Hot A/C and heating up quickly at Top 40. Last week also saw the premiere of the video for “Never Gonna Be Alone.” Added out of the box at VH1 and Fuse, both channels will start airing it on November 23rd. The video can currently be seen via Nickelback.com, RoadrunnerRecords.com and YouTube. Look for the broadcast premiere November 23rd. The video was shot by veteran director and longtime Nickelback friend Nigel Dick.

Nickelback is one of the biggest rock bands in the world, with over 35 million albums sold. The band’s latest album, Dark Horse, produced by the legendary Mutt Lange, debuted at number two on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and has remained on the Top 200 for 50 weeks selling over 2.4 million albums in the US alone. Nickelback is currently nominated for a 2009 American Music Award in the Pop/Rock category for Favorite Band, Duo or Group.

Nickelback has enjoyed unprecedented success with their last album, All The Right Reasons, which has been RIAA certified 8X platinum. The six singles from the album totaled 12 million downloads and 6 million ringtones. All proceeds of digital single and video sales for “If Everyone Cared” between February 1 and July 31, 2007 were donated to charity, equally distributed between Amnesty International and International Childrens’ Awareness Canada. Coming off an almost two year hiatus following 2007′s sold-out U.S. tour, BREAKING BENJAMIN will kick off the first leg of their tour on November 29th in San Antonio, TX. Additional dates, along with tour plans for early 2010, will be announced in the coming weeks. According to lead singer Ben Burnley, the band is “looking forward to getting back on the road and playing the new material for the fans.” Last week, the band did just that performing a rare acoustic show for a packed and enthusiastic group of lucky contest winners in their hometown of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Dear Agony marks the third straight BREAKING BENJAMIN/David Bendeth collaboration. The first two — 2004′s We Are Not Alone and 2006′s Phobia — yielded spectacular results with each being certified Platinum.

Hurt opened the show without much of a sound check, so it took a couple songs for the audio to get balanced. By the time they began playing the third song of the set, “Ten Ton Brick”, the sound issues were resolved and the crowd really started to get into the performance. A good sized mosh pit formed, and then the pit collapsed as the entire floor surged forward toward J. Loren, Hurt’s vocalist, as he climbed up onto the security barrier. They were only able to play four songs, but it seemed like they put an hour’s worth of energy into that short period of time.

Seether’s set was incredible. The band had a lot of energy and the large stage suits them very well. They have employed the skills of guitarist Troy McLawhorn of Dark New Day to help augment their sound for this tour, and you could tell they were very happy to have him on board. Vocalist, Shaun Morgan, seemed to be having an exceptionally good time. During the set, Adam Gontier and Barry Stock from Three Days Grace joined Seether on stage for a performance of “Broken”.

The crowd exploded for Breaking Benjamin. Most of the shows I attend are in smaller venues, so it’s always refreshing to see the collective power of a cheering crowd in a venue this size. During Breaking Benjamin’s performance, the guys from Three Days Grace came out again to play while Benjamin Burnley passed out bottled water to the crowd. Another highlight of their set was when the band was able to strut their stuff during a drum solo and rock melody which included songs by Led Zeppelin and AC/DC.

By the time Three Days Grace hit the stage, the venue was starting to get hot. They had to carry several people out of the pit for medical attention. Their performance was equally hot. The jam-packed crowd couldn’t help but move and get into the music. The pyro was a cool touch, more flash than boom, but it really added a lot to the show. It’s no wonder why these guys have the type of following tha they do. They work hard to put on a great show, and the crowd loves it.

My photographer had the opportunity to go to the Atlantic City, New Jersey show the next night. She told me it was even better, and many of the guys in the bands got to hang out with some of the fans in one of the casino lounges. For those of you keeping track, Shaun says the word of the day is “virago.” For all the bands on this tour, my word of the day for you is “prodigious.”
