Dave Matthews Band Announces North American Summer Tour

Dave Matthews Band returns to the road this summer with an extensive North American summer tour launching on May 18 at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Woodlands, TX. The group – which ranked as the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade – took last year off from touring, so this will be its first outing since 2010.

The tour will feature numerous two-night stands, including visits at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY (June 8 & 9) and the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL (July 20 & 21). The group will begin a West Coast run over Labor Day weekend with three nights (August 31, September 1 & 2) at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA, where Dave Matthews Band has headlined 40 shows since 1997. Dave Matthews Band Caravan Comes to Chicago

The second “Dave Matthews Band Caravan” of the summer will take place at Chicago’s Lakeside, located on the south shore of Lake Michigan, just a short distance from downtown Chicago. Details of the three-day festival, scheduled for July 8, 9 and 10, were announced today at a press conference held at the site. The event will feature a diverse lineup of musical talent performing on three stages during the day and a full set by headliners Dave Matthews Band each night – the group’s only performances in the Midwest this year.

“Dave Matthews Band Caravan” will be the first event ever held at Lakeside, where the panoramic vista of downtown Chicago across the waters will provide a stunning backdrop to the festivities. Attendees can easily access Lakeside by Metra train, CTA Red Line, bus, bicycle and car. There is ample onsite parking and a carpool program will be available to help connect those who would like to share a ride. Chicago Lakeside Development, LLC previously announced an ambitious redevelopment plan to transform the site into a vibrant, LEED-Neighborhood Development certified community, based on the principles of smart growth, urbanism and green building, and distinguished by large open spaces, excellent connectivity and access to public transportation/bike paths.

In addition to Dave Matthews Band, the lineup for the Chicago Lakeside “Caravan” will include David Gray, Ray LaMontagne, O.A.R., Kid Cudi, The Flaming Lips performing Dark Side of the Moon, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Amos Lee, Emmylou Harris, Ben Folds, G. Dave Matthews Band will bring “Dave Matthews Band Caravan” to four U.S. locales this summer. The series of three-day festivals will feature a diverse array of musical talent performing on three stages during the day. As headliners, Dave Matthews Band will perform a full set each night. The band is taking the year off from touring, so these will be its only performances this year.

It was announced at a press conference today that Atlantic City, NJ has been selected to host the first “Dave Matthews Band Caravan,” which will take place on June 24^th, 25^th and 26^th at Bader Field, formerly the site of the Atlantic City Municipal Airport. With its central location on the Eastern seaboard, Atlantic City is easily accessible from such major metropolitan areas as New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC via air, bus, car, Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. Dave Matthews Band To Release Live In New York City

On November 9^th, RCA Records will release Dave Matthews Band’s Live In New York City. The two disc set captures the group’s sold-out July 17, 2010 concert at Citi Field, the second of two electrifying shows at the venue.

Reviewing the opening night of the two-night stand, the New York Post said: “Matthews and company presented a killer concert for more than 42,000 fans, tapping into his entire songbook from their first record, ‘Under The Table and Dreaming’ to last year’s Grammy-nominated Album of the Year, ‘Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.’ It didn’t matter if the tunes in the set were new or old – each song the band laid down had a built-in freshness…”

Dave Matthews Band will launch an extensive North American tour tomorrow, with the first of two shows at The Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT. The group will headline the closing dates of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN (6/13), the HullabaLOU Festival in Louisville, KY (7/25) and the Mile High Music Festival in Commerce City, CO (8/15). This year’s outing will include numerous stadium shows, including Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, PA (7/9), Pittsburgh’s PNC Park (7/10), two consecutive nights at Citi Field in Flushing, NY (7/16, 17), and Nationals Park in Washington, DC (7/23). In the past decade, Dave Matthews Band was the biggest ticket seller worldwide, selling upwards of 11 million tickets to 547 shows from 2000-2009, according to Billboard Boxscore. In fact, it was the only group to exceed 10 million in attendance for the period. The band has sold over 17 million tickets since its inception. With preparations underway for its 20th consecutive summer tour, the group recently told fans that they will be taking next year off. “We feel lucky that our tours are a part of so many people’s lives,” Dave Matthews Band said in a statement posted on its website earlier this month. “We’re excited to make this summer one of our best tours yet, and look forward to returning to the road in 2012.”

Dave Matthews Band Haiti Relief Project

In an initiative to assist in providing long-term support to the people of the earthquake-ravaged nation of Haiti, Dave Matthews Band has established the Bama Works Haiti Relief Fund. Proceeds from The Haiti Relief Project, a five-song digital EP from the group, and a new limited edition t-shirt featuring its cover art, will benefit the fund. The EP will be available for download for $5 beginning tomorrow at DMBLive.com. Musictoday is graciously providing the download service for this release. In addition, all proceeds from merchandise sales (excluding music and video with the exception of The Haiti Relief Project download) made in the Warehouse and the band’s official online store on Friday, January 29th, will go to the Relief Fund.

The Haiti Relief Project features five previously unreleased live tracks from Dave Matthews Band. The collection kicks off with “Butterfly,” a song Matthews wrote for the film Because of Winn Dixie and performed solo in this 2007 recording. It’s followed by a 2004 version of “Cry Freedom” featuring a powerful performance from LeRoi Moore, the group’s saxophonist, who passed away in 2008. Three tracks captured on the band’s 2009 summer tour – “Out Of My Hands,” “Lying In The Hands Of God” and “Dive In” – are also included. The staff of Ants Marching, a Dave Matthews Band fan forum, was instrumental in selecting the versions of the five songs that appear on the EP. Award-winning designer Adam Larson of Adam+Company generously donated the artwork for the EP, which also appears on the limited edition The Haiti Relief Project t-shirt.

The Bama Works Haiti Relief Fund, a part of the Bama Works Fund of Dave Matthews Band, will be focused on rebuilding efforts. The Bama Works Fund was founded in 1999 and has provided more than $8.5 million to charities thus far.

Working with Music For Relief, a non-profit founded by Linkin Park, Dave Matthews Band joined forces with Linkin Park, Alanis Morissette, The All-American Rejects, Enrique Iglesias, Hoobastank, Kenna, Lupe Fiasco, Peter Gabriel and Slash for Download To Donate For Haiti, a compilation benefiting Haiti relief efforts. Dave Matthews Band’s “Typical Situation” from the July 5, 1997 Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre show in Irvine, CA was selected for the charitable release and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Bama Works Haiti Relief Fund.Last Friday, Matthews and Neil Young performed Hank Williams’ “Alone and Forsaken” at the “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon. The live performance album from the broadcast, which benefits Haitian relief organizations, was the first digital-only release in chart history to top The Billboard 200.

Dave Matthews Band will launch an extensive North American summer tour with a two-night stand at The Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT (May 28th and 29th). The group’s Platinum-certified 2009 album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King (RCA), is nominated for two GRAMMY awards – “Album Of The Year” and “Best Rock Album.” Dave Matthews Band will perform at the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards, held this Sunday, January 31st, at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast live in HDTV and 5.1 Surround Sound on CBS from 8 – 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

Dave Matthews Band To Release New Box Set

On December 22nd, RCA will release Dave Matthews Band’s Europe 2009, the ultimate companion to the band’s latest studio album, the Platinum-certified Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, which was recently nominated for two GRAMMY awards – “Album Of The Year” and “Best Rock Album.” Fans can pre-order the Europe 2009 box set now here.

Europe 2009 includes Dave Matthews Band: Live from Lucca, a set ofthree CDs from the group’s July 5, 2009 show in Lucca, Italy, and Across the Pond, a DVD from its June 26, 2009 show at O2 Academy Brixton in London, England. The discs are housed in an exclusive C. Taylor Crothers photo book chronicling the entire Dave Matthews Band 2009 tour. Europe 2009 comes in a sleeve with room to hold a Big Whiskey Super Deluxe edition.

With Big Whiskey, which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in June 2009, Dave Matthews Band paid tribute to founding member/saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who passed away in August of 2008. The group spent much of 2009 touring in support of the album, delivering some of the most emotional, powerful performances of its career, as Europe 2009 documents.

Dave Matthews Band – comprising Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar) and Boyd Tinsley (violin) – will return to Europe in early 2010, with a tour launching February 13th in Stockholm and culminating with five U.K. dates in March.Formed in Virginia in the early 1990′s, the group has sold a collective 35 million units (CD and DVD combined).Renowned for its live shows, Dave Matthews Band has sold 16 million tickets and was named the top-drawing American band in the world by Billboard.

Live From Lucca – 3 CD set

On July 5, 2009, Dave Matthews Band played at a beautiful plaza in the heart of Lucca, Italy. In this Tuscan setting, surrounded by city walls dating back to the Renaissance era, the group was inspired to deliver one of its longest performances ever. Lasting nearly three hours, the show featured a mix of Dave Matthews Band classics and new songs from Big Whiskey.

Across the Pond – DVD

“Dave Matthews Band: Across the Pond” is a concert film shot in the historic Brixton Academy in South London, an intimate setting reminiscent of the band’s early years of club and theater touring. Directed by Sam Erickson (The Road to Big Whiskey Documentary/44 Pictures), it was filmed with 10 HD cameras on July 26, 2009. Mixed in pristine stereo and 5.1 surround from the original multi track recordings and presented via Dolby Digital stereo audio, it also includes five bonus tracks from the band’s June 25th O2 Academy show.
