Review:

With a name like Nihilitia, one might think the band may not give a shit enough about their own existence to put out any decent music. Instead, with Nihilist Militia, we are presented with a sludge rock creation, reminiscent of the Melvins, that pushes boundaries and pushes buttons.

Sara Hussain plays some of the more viscouus bass lines I’ve heard in a while. That, and her intense vocals make her a powerful front to this band. Chris Thomas’ guitar work is rooted in heavy sludge rock but he often goes outside the box into a psychedelic or trippy feel. The song “Fortnight” even borders on prog rock, while parts of “Lebanese Butcher” remind me of Radiohead. The band’s sound in rounded off by Brad Sheppard’s solid chops on drums.

Being a sludge-rock influenced band, Nihilitia pays less attention to the technical aspects of their music and more to the raw emotional of the ordeal. Precision does not alway equate to good. Overall this album rocks out, but with only seven tracks, your appetite may not be entirely satisfied. Luckily this is the type of album that warrants repeated play, so crank it up.
