(New York, NY) – Opeth and Mastodon will be embarking on a co-headline tour this spring, which kicks off April 4 in Portland, Maine and runs through May 12 in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s the first time these two titans of progressive and forward-thinking hard rock have hit the road together. Ghost will serve as the opener of the tour, which has been christened the “Heritage Hunter.”

About the tour, Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt, in his trademark deadpan wit, stated, “We’re touring North America together with Mastodon soon. Nice! One of the very few metal bands of today that I genuinely like. Good people too! Ghost are coming with us as well, and they are one of the hottest new bands to come out of Sweden in recent years, and I dig them too. I sound like an old fart, don’t I? Well, I am.”

He continued, “Yet, am I right in thinking that this tour, this line up, is pretty decent? Would you all agree? Not complete shit, is it? Hope to see y’all out there! What are we playing? Not sure yet, but considering the company, maybe we’ll have to pull out the big guns from time to time. In order to keep up, I mean.”

(New York, NY) – Sweden’s most revered and respected progressive metal mavens Opeth will release Heritage, their third album for Roadrunner, on September 20th. The first single and video will be the song “The Devil’s Orchard.” Heritage follows up 2008’s Watershed and 2005’s Ghost Reveries, each of which garnered the forward-thinking, genre-bending band some of the best reviews of their career.

Opeth frontman and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt weighed in on Heritage, saying, “It will be our 10th album/observation. I dig it; we all do. In fact, it feels like I’ve been building up to write for and participate on an album like this since I was 19.”

Åkerfeldt went a little deeper and described the music contained within Heritage, saying, “It’s quite intense at times in some ‘old’ murky way, and quite beautiful and stark at times, if I may say so myself. It’s obvious I’m going to say nice things about it since I wrote basically the whole piece, but I guess it will raise a few eyebrows and it certainly is an acquired taste. I think you’ll need a slightly deeper understanding of our music as a whole to be able to appreciate this record. I’ve realized my influences for this album are so diverse that I can’t really say what it sounds like. If I can compare it to any other band, it would have to be Opeth, but it’s different from the stuff we’ve done before. I’ve listened a lot to Alice Cooper for the last year, yet I can’t say it sounds like ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy.’ I hope you’ll like it once you hear it.”

The album was produced by Åkerfeldt and mixed along with Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson, who is a labelmate of Opeth. Longtime collaborator Travis Smith also worked with Åkerfeldt to create, design and execute the album’s artwork.

The track listing for Heritage is as follows:

“Heritage”
“The Devil’s Orchard”
“I Feel the Dark”
“Slither”
“Nepenthe”
“Haxprocess”
“Famine”
“The Lines in My Hand”
“Folklore”
“Marrow of the Earth”

Heritage will be released in several configurations that will certainly incite the interest of Opeth’s legion of fans, known for their passion for collecting and collectibles. The album will be released as a standard version; as a special edition loaded with extras; as a box set exclusive to the Roadrunner and the bands own official Omerch webstore; and as a double LP. There is something for every Opeth fan, thanks to this expansive variety of options.

Opeth will also embark on a seven-week, headline tour of the US. Dates will be announced imminently.

(New York, NY) – As part of the ongoing celebration of their 20th anniversary, Sweden’s OPETH is releasing live footage and audio from the band’s recent performance at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall. In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, due out 9/21/10, is a fierce testament to Opeth’s continued success in the progressive metal community.

Twenty years and nine records into their legendary career, Opeth’s “progressively creative spirit” (ARTISTdirect) remains unwavering, propelling the band through the “Evolution XX: An Opeth Anthology” tour, which brought the Swedish titans to six of the world’s most unique venues, and now, with the release of In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, into the homes of their fans.

The performance at the Royal Albert Hall (recorded on the 5th of April, 2010) includes two sets, the first consisting of the band performing 2000’s now-classic, breakthrough epic, Blackwater Park in its entirety, and the second, a chronologically arranged selection of material from the rest of Opeth’s extensive catalogue, totaling almost three hours of music. It is, like the rest of Opeth’s greatest work, “purposefully warped in all the right places” (Decibel). The front cover artwork concept pays tribute to Deep Purple’s Concerto for Group and Orchestra, underlining the band’s longstanding love for their prog-rock roots.

Thinking back to the concert, frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt says “Opeth had a magical night playing the Royal Albert Hall. It was a dream come true, and now afterward, it still feels like a dream. We got it all on film, and this, our third live recording and DVD might be my personal favorite. One couldn’t help to think of all the fantastic artists that played there over the years. Looking back at this night of celebration brings me fond memories of our 20th anniversary—this package is the delayed birthday present. Enjoy!”

The release will be available as three very special configurations:

Review:
The soundtrack to the highly anticipated third installment of the God Of War video game series will be released by Roadrunner Records on March 2nd. The 6-song EP contains new, previously unreleased music from hard-hitting artists Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Dream Theater, Opeth, Taking Dawn, and Mutiny Within.

This EP is like a metal-lovers mix-tape. It kicks-off with the awesome guitar driven Killswitch Engage track “My Obsession”. The Trivium track, “Shattering The Skies Above,” features new drummer Nick Augusto, who proves without a doubt that he’s more than just a suitable replacement for Travis Smith. All the tracks are solid, but the “The Throat Of Winter” by Opeth, with it’s intricate acoustic guitars and lush (but not overcooked) production really stands out. It has an interesting 70′s rock vibe not unlike the music of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, or Queen.

As a cool bonus, when you purchase the God of War III Ultimate Edition game you will receive a voucher code to download the tracks, as well as other music in the form of the God of War Trilogy soundtrack.

(New York, NY) – ROADRUNNER RECORDS announced plans to release an exclusive digital extended play (EP) soundtrack for the highly anticipated PlayStation®3 (PS3™) exclusive videogame, God of War ®III. The EP, titled God of War®: Blood & Metal, will be released in March as a part of the God of War III® Ultimate Edition, and will feature five exclusive unreleased songs from Roadrunner artists, including KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, DREAM THEATER, TRIVIUM, OPETH and TAKING DAWN.

Consumers who purchase the God of War III Ultimate Edition will receive a voucher code to download the tracks, as well as downloadable music in the form of the God of War Trilogy soundtrack. Fans will also receive a special code to download a director’s cut of God of War: Unearthing the Legend, a full-length movie documentary depicting the history of the God of War franchise, access to an exclusive God of War Challenge Arena environment with up to seven unique challenges, an exclusive Kratos skin, and a limited edition art book. The God of War III Ultimate Edition will retail for $99.99 (MSRP).

“I have played the previous God of War releases,” said Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones. “To be a part of this game in any fashion is amazing! Let the rivers flow red with blood; there is vengeance to bestow! Bring me more new finishing blows to my enemies!”

“Music has always been an important part of videogames and can help bring titles to life,” said Stig Asmussen, God of War III Game Director. “Our goal is to make God of War III a special release in all areas and this just another way to offer fans and newcomers a worthwhile experience.”

“This is the first time in 24 years that we’ve written and recorded a song for anything other than one of our own albums, so we’re up for the challenge and excited to have been asked,” said Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy about recording an exclusive instrumental track for the soundtrack.

“When we were initially asked to write an original song for the game, we were slightly perplexed since we’ve never actually written a track for something other than a Trivium record,” said Trivium, vocalist Matt Heafy. “But we answered the call as we are fans of the game. Writing the song was a fun experience. We started piecing riffs together on tour and then we really put time into the song when we got home and had the chance to go into the practice space to work on our ideas as a group. This new song captures a certain energy we’ve been trying to harness on record as well, as it will show all our fans worldwide where Trivium is heading musically in the future.”

(New York, NY) – Sweden’s OPETH, easily one of the most revered and respected bands in the metal scene and beyond for the past two decades, will commemorate their twentieth anniversary in the of Spring 2010 with six exclusive shows that will take place across the globe in various international locales such as Stockholm, Sweden; Essen, Germany; Paris, France; London, UK; New York City, NY; and Los Angeles, CA.

Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt had the following to say on behalf of the band: “I can’t believe it, but… fuck, we’re celebrating 20 years. I’ve been in this band ever since I was 16. It’s insane. As far as I remember, we’ve never had a release party, never celebrated anything officially. Well, now is the time, you hear? We’ve set up a string of shows, six of them actually, around the world. To say that they will be super-exclusive is beyond an understatement. We’ve discussed the set list already and it seems like we’ll pull out a few songs we’ve never played before, some of which fans all over the world have been demanding to hear for years and years. Our main agenda for these shows is to have ‘fun’ whilst trying to blow your fucking minds. You could say business as usual, but really, it’ll be special. I can’t stress enough how exclusive this will be. We will not add any more shows on top of the six that we’ve confirmed already, so please make up your mind early on whether you want to go or not – of course you fucking do- as I would assume there’s quite a few of our fans that might be interested in seeing a thing like this.”

Akerfeldt said the band will spend the better part of January through March rehearsing for this special series of shows. “All to make you fucking happy! OK, we’ll be tight, very tight indeed. Come see us.” It’s a celebration,” he finished.

At each show, the band will perform two sets. The first set will feature the band playing its breakthrough epic Blackwater Park in its entirety. The second set will consist of mixed material from the band’s extensive catalog. The band will be playing for over two hours at carefully selected venues in order to achieve an element of intimacy and exclusivity, and an overall “You had to be there” vibe!

The venues include the famed and prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, as well as the luxurious Lichtburg in Essen, the oldest fully seated cinema in Germany.

The band will offer exclusive VIP ticket packages to all shows which include a laminated VIP pass exclusive to each show, access to sound check, a meet ‘n greet with Opeth, a t-shirt exclusive to that particular show, a signed tour program and a special edition CD/DVD of Blackwater Park, with a 5.1 mix and a 30-minute, never-before-seen documentary all nicely packaged in a hard cover digipack designed by artist Travis Smith. The special edition will be released in March 2010 through Sony Music. All the Opeth loot will be included in an Opeth rucksack. The VIP laminate will also allow early access to venues without seat allocation so that VIP’s can get the best seats in the house.

Below are the dates and venues:

March 30 – Cirkus – Stockholm, Sweden
April 1 – Lichtburg – Essen, Germany
April 3 – Bataclan – Paris, France
April 5 – Royal Albert Hall – London, UK
April 7 – Terminal 5 – New York, NY
April 9 – The Wiltern – Los Angeles, CA
