Queensryche Signs to Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records

(New York, NY) – Four-time Grammy nominees Queensryche have signed a multi-album, worldwide deal with Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records. The band’s label debut –their twelfth studio album overall- is tentatively scheduled for a Spring 2011 release. Singer and founder Geoff Tate remains the creative nucleus of the band, which continues to make relevant, against-the-grain hard rock that entices fans, both new and diehard.

Queensryche have been – and unquestionably remain- one of the most respected and innovative names in forward-thinking hard rock throughout the course of their nearly 30-year history. Since their inception over 25 years ago, Queensryche have sold over 20 million albums worldwide and have performed in over 22 countries.

“We are very happy to be signing with Road Runner/Loud and Proud. This is the rock label and a place where they are as excited about our music as we and our fans are,” Tate said.

Queenryche’s 1988-issued album Operation: Mindcrime is universally respected as a classic concept release about rock, revenge and redemption. The album elicited comparisons to The Who’s Tommy and Pink Floyd’s The Wall and is ultimately regarded as one of the most important and essential hard rock records in the genre’s expansive canon. 1990’s follow-up, Empire, yielded a #1 single, the Grammy-nominated ballad “Silent Lucidity,” which the band performed at the 1992 Grammy Awards accompanied by a supporting orchestra.

In 2006, the band released Operation: Mindcrime II, a scorching sequel to their original. The band then hit the road performing both albums Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II back-to-back in their entirety in an incredible theatrical presentation throughout the year. The final performance was recorded at The Moore Theatre in Seattle that October and the Mindcrime at the Moore double CD/DVD release debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Music DVD Chart and eventually reached Gold status.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Live in Chicago Due Sept. 28th

Recorded in Chicago’s House of Blues during the critically acclaimed 10 Days Out: Blues From The Backroads tour, Live in Chicago showcases Kenny and his band, Noah Hunt, Chris Layton, Scott Nelson and Riley Osbourn, along with special guests, Hubert Sumlin, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Buddy Flett, Bryan Lee and Tommy Shannon (of Double Trouble). Though an illness nearly kept Kenny from performing that night, his heartfelt commitment to the music (and quite a lot of adrenaline) ensured that he took the stage, sharing with the audience one of the most spectacular performances of his career, and one that fans can now hear on Live in Chicago.

A genuine guitar hero, Kenny has been playing since childhood, when he learned Muddy Waters licks by listening to his father’s record collection. By 16, Kenny had a deal with Giant Records, and recorded his first album while still in high school. Since then, Kenny has enjoyed two platinum and one gold albums, six Top 10 singles, and his album Trouble Is holds the distinction of being the longest running album on the Billboard Blues Charts, hitting the 2 year mark. Over the course of his storied career, Kenny has amassed four Grammy nominations, two Billboard Music Awards, two Orville H. Review:
This is shaping-up as the year of the retro sound, with many well established acts going back to the drawing board in an attempt to recapture the essence of their early work. So far, this has not been a bad thing, with many bands reminding us why we fell in love with their music in the first place.

Enter Korn, one of the latest artists getting back to their roots with the release of their ninth major studio release, Korn III: Remember Who You Are. To help them with this endeavor, he band enlisted Producer Ross Robinson, who also produced Korn’s self-titled 1994 debut, and 1996′s Life is Peachy.

A few bars into the first single, “Oildale (Leave Me Alone),” and it’s instantly clear that the production plays a huge role in separating this album from other recent Korn recordings. Robinson and band have stripped the music back to a more organic sound, not buried under too many audio layers and studio magic. The result is crisp, powerful, and energetic songs.

This is the first Korn album to feature new full-time drummer Ray Luzier (formerly of Army of Anyone). We first get a taste of Luzier’s percussion prowess in the song “Pop a Pill.” It sounds incredible to hear Luzier and Fieldy (Reginald Arvizu) perform in absolute sync. The rhythm section is so tight that you’d think they’d been playing together for years. It also sounds like having Luzier to work with is allowing Fieldy to lay down some really outstanding bass-lines.

When reading about this album, I keep seeing the word “simple” tossed around, like the music has been dumbed down in some way. Simple is not the adjective I would choose to describe the music. Aggressive, infectious, rapid, and eerie, are better descriptive words, especially when trying to describe Munky’s (James Shaffer’s) guitar-work.

The guitar in songs like “Lead the Parade” is anything but simple, with interesting chord progressions and rapid, often jarring changes. This may be as close to a Beatles song as Korn will ever create… if the Beatles somehow merged with the Dead Kennedys in an alternate universe. The structure of the song is maddening, with Jonathan Davis’ narrative painted over it. If your not agitated by the end of the song, check your pulse.

The album closes with “Holding All These Lies”, which features fast and heavy verses, and a more melodic chorus. Midway through, the track breaks-down to a quiet tone, then explodes again into a powerful cathartic opus. Not unlike the final track on their self-titled debut, “Daddy,” Davis bears his soul and pours so much of himself into the music, that by the end of it he can be heard weeping in the background. While listening, you may begin to realize at this point that you’re white knuckled and holding your breath waiting for the tension to abate so the air can come back into the room.

This is the Korn album you’ve been waiting for.

Roadrunner/ Loud & Proud Records Signs Kenny Wayne Shepherd

(New York, NY) - Roadrunner/ Loud & Proud Records is pleased to announce the signing of four-time Grammy nominated, American blues/rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd to a worldwide, multi-album deal. He is currently working on his Roadrunner/Loud & Proud debut projects, which include his first live album and a new studio album.

Widely regarded as a guitar hero before that term exploded into pop culture with the video game, the self-taught Shepherd learned to play at the tender age of seven-years-old, learning Muddy Waters licks while listening to his father’s record collection. At 13, he was invited onstage and performed with New Orleans bluesman Bryan Lee. Signed to Giant Records at 16, Shepherd recorded his first album while a senior in high school.

In 1997, Kenny was ranked third in Guitar World’s list of favorite blues artists behind legends B.B. King and Eric Clapton. He has enjoyed two platinum and one gold albums, six Top 10 singles and his album Trouble Is… holds the distinction of being the longest running album on the Billboard Blues Charts. It held strong at #1 for 20 weeks including 15 weeks consecutively. The hit single “Blue on Black” was also a record-breaker, #1 for 17 consecutive weeks at rock radio.

Shepherd’s decorated career includes four Grammy nominations, two Billboard Music Awards, two Orville Gibson Awards, the Blues Foundation’s “Keeping the Blues Alive” Award and a Blues Music Award. In September 2008 Fender released the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Signature Series Stratocaster, designed exclusively by Shepherd. The inimitable James Brown referred to him as “one of the wonders of the world.”

His most recent release, 2007′s #1 selling Blues Album 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads, documents Shepherd as he travels the country to jam with and interview the last of the authentic blues musicians. Steve Miller Band To Release First Studio Album In 17 Years

Recorded at film producer George Lucas’ infamous studios at Skywalker Ranch, BINGO! is the band’s first studio album in 17 years. A true return to Miller’s roots, BINGO! echoes his early years in the Chicago music scene and features carefully chosen and crafted tracks performed in distinctive Steve Miller Band fashion.

Review:
The soundtrack to the highly anticipated third installment of the God Of War video game series will be released by Roadrunner Records on March 2nd. The 6-song EP contains new, previously unreleased music from hard-hitting artists Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Dream Theater, Opeth, Taking Dawn, and Mutiny Within.

This EP is like a metal-lovers mix-tape. It kicks-off with the awesome guitar driven Killswitch Engage track “My Obsession”. The Trivium track, “Shattering The Skies Above,” features new drummer Nick Augusto, who proves without a doubt that he’s more than just a suitable replacement for Travis Smith. All the tracks are solid, but the “The Throat Of Winter” by Opeth, with it’s intricate acoustic guitars and lush (but not overcooked) production really stands out. It has an interesting 70′s rock vibe not unlike the music of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, or Queen.

Young The Giant To Record With Joe Chiccarelli

(New York, NY) – Roadrunner Records new recording artist, Young the Giant (formerly The Jakes) are headed into the studio to record their debut album. At the helm will be Grammy award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket). The band will be recording in Los Angeles and plan for the album to be released this summer.

Frontman Sameer Gadhia says, “We are set to work with one of our greatest musical inspirations, Grammy Award winning producer, Joe Chiccarelli. This will be our first effort with a major label push, and we can’t think of anyone else more suited for the task than Joe. We have much to learn from him, and now, with 95% of our album written, we can’t wait to make this final and most crucial step.”

Hailing from Newport Beach, CA, the 5 piece band has been making music together since high school. Having grown together musically for several years, Young the Giant self- released Shake My Hand EP under their former moniker, The Jakes, in 2008. Roadrunner Records To Release Digital EP For God Of War

(New York, NY) – ROADRUNNER RECORDS announced plans to release an exclusive digital extended play (EP) soundtrack for the highly anticipated PlayStation®3 (PS3™) exclusive videogame, God of War ®III. The EP, titled God of War®: Blood & Metal, will be released in March as a part of the God of War III® Ultimate Edition, and will feature five exclusive unreleased songs from Roadrunner artists, including KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, DREAM THEATER, TRIVIUM, OPETH and TAKING DAWN.

Two Roadrunner Artists Gain Grammy Nominations

(New York, NY) – Roadrunner Records is proud to congratulate two of their marquee artists on 2010 Grammy Award nominations, announced yesterday. Mega-platinum rockers Nickelback nabbed a nod in the Best Hard Rock Performance (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals) category for their sizzling track “Burn It To the Ground,” from their latest release Dark Horse. Multi-platinum thrash pioneers Megadeth earned a nomination in the Best Metal Performance (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals) category for the blistering track “Headcrusher,” the lead single from the recently released ENDGAME. Both artists have earned several previous nominations, though this is Megadeth’s first nomination on a Roadrunner release. In addition to the artist nominations, Brendan O’Brien received a nod for Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical. O’Brien produced this year’s acclaimed self-titled release from RIAA Gold-certified metalcore veterans Killswitch Engage.

Megadeth’s latest album ENDGAME was released this fall to rave reviews. The band’s signature shredding and rousing lyrics are the hallmarks of ENDGAME, with vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine musing and making declarations about the world we live in, having named the album after a controversial government document. Revolver magazine said of ENDGAME, “One of their best albums.” VH1’s That Metal Show deemed it, “One of the metal albums of the year”, and Popmatters said, “the record positively scorches with an intensity not heard since Rust In Peace.” Megadeth is currently on tour in the U.S. in support of ENDGAME, and will team up with Slayer and Testament in the new year for the American Carnage tour.

Nickelback is one of the biggest rock bands in the world, with over 35 million albums sold. The band’s latest album, Dark Horse, produced by the legendary Mutt Lange, debuted at number two on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and has remained on the Top 200 for 50 weeks selling over 2.5 million albums in the US alone. The latest single from Dark Horse, “Never Gonna Be Alone,” is heating up quickly at Top 40, and the recently premiered video can be seen at Vh1 and Fuse, Nickelback.com, RoadrunnerRecords.com and YouTube. Nickelback is currently on tour in Australia, and will be touring the U.S. this spring.
