(New York, NY) – Rock-trio and social activists STATE RADIO release their third studio album LET IT GO today and celebrate with a sold-out show in their home city of Boston to kick off their 35-city trek across North America. The tour dates include a stop at the Austin City Limits Festival on October 4 and two weeks supporting 311. The band also releases a special digital deluxe version of Let It Go on iTunes today. For a limited time, fans can purchase the new album plus a double disc Live at The Brattle Theater—a total of 41 tracks for $14.99. Live At The Brattle Theatre not only features live, acoustic State Radio songs and rarities, but also three Dispatch tracks, including “The General.”

State Radio is currently the #1 highlighted artist on Mashable’s “Free Music Monday” with their popular track “Calling All Crows,” a one-drop groove that calls the band’s legion of fans to attention. The track debuted at #6 on Billboard’s Top Singles Chart ahead of major acts like All American Rejects, Linkin Park and Paramore and has remained in the Top 100 for six weeks and counting. Addtionally, the anthemic “Knights Of Bostonia” has already been added to commercial alternative radio stations in the northeast. In the coming days, State Radio will also be releasing their second iPhone application powered by iLike, which will feature tracks, videos, photos, and additional exclusive content.

The band has also confirmed pre-show community service projects via their humanitarian organization, Calling All Crows, for 18 of the 35 tour markets so far. Like Rage Against The Machine and System Of A Down before them, State Radio roll up their sleeves as they practice what they preach, whether it’s riding bikes to gigs to support Bikes Not Bombs, hosting food drives in conjunction with Rock For A Remedy, adopting portions of beaches to ensure they are cleaned regularly, or playing shows to raise money for the Learning Center for the Deaf. On this slew of dates, the band and Calling All Crows will team up with local non-profit groups and participate in service like habitat restoration, sustainability tours and teach-ins.

(New York, NY) – As STATE RADIO gear up for their 24-city headline tour, which kicks off in their hometown of Boston to celebrate the release of their third studio album LET IT GO (Ruff Shod) on September 29, the band have just announced that they will join 311 on tour for 11 dates starting November 22 in Uncasville, CT.

The band, who in addition to their high-octane live shows have also become known for their dedication to social activism, also announced that they will join Anti-Flag to team up with Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) as the G20 descends on Pittsburgh later this month. “War. Crime. 2009: A G20 Welcoming Party” will take place at 7:00pm at Club Zoo in the strip district of Pittsburgh. The concert will celebrate the resistance of communities in Pittsburgh and around the world to the failed economic policies of the G20, with all proceeds benefiting SDS’s legal defense and organizing efforts. Tickets to this all ages show go on sale through Ticketmaster this Saturday, September 6, at Noon ET.

In anticipation of Let It Go, the rock-trio–Chad Stokes (singer/guitarist), Chuck Fay (bass) and Mike “Mad Dog” Najarian (drums)–released a six-song digital EP, State Of Georgia: Selections From Live At The Brattle Theatre on August 25. The EP debuted at #106 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart this week, just two weeks after the first single from Let It Go called “Calling All Crows”—a one-drop groove that calls the band’s legion of fans to attention—debuted at #6 on Billboard’s Top Singles Chart, placing the band ahead of major acts like All American Rejects, Linkin Park and Paramore.

(New York, NY) – The past 16 months have been nothing short of an intense journey for STATE RADIO. The Boston-based trio toured relentlessly, bringing their blend of rock infused with reggae/ska influences to sold-out crowds of thousands from New York to Boston to Chicago to Los Angeles. They were hand-picked by Tom Morello to open for Rage Against The Machine at the August 2008 Democratic National Convention. They launched their “Take Back The Country Tour” in support of the 60th Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights, and along the way played Bonnaroo, Rothbury and the Mile High Festivals. They did service projects in every city they played, from planting trees to protesting in the streets. They penned a song, “State Of Georgia,” for Amnesty International’s viral campaign to free Georgia death-row inmate Troy Davis.

In the midst of all this, State Radio—Chad Stokes (singer/guitarist), Chuck Fay (bass) and Mike “Mad Dog” Najarian (drums)–spent time in their home state of Massachusetts with producer Dom Monks to record their third studio album, LET IT GO, which is set for release on September 29 (Ruff Shod). Let It Go was recorded live to tape, with the intention of combining the trio’s penchant for storytelling with their raw and hard-hitting live shows.

With their fans always at the top of their priorities, State Radio will offer two deluxe packages of Let It Go. The first will be a very special limited edition deluxe fan pack available on the band’s website, which will include a collector’s edition vinyl album, an eco-friendly digipack physical CD, a double disc Live at The Brattle Theater (30 live/acoustic tracks recorded over 2 nights in Boston at the Brattle Theatre), a single disc live bootleg recording of the band’s Washington, DC show this past December, and an exclusive t-shirt for $49.99. The second package will be a digital deluxe album with 11 tracks, plus the Live At the Brattle Theater recording for a total of forty-one tracks for only $19.99.

Let It Go will be in stores September 29th.

Track Listing:

1. Mansin Humanity
2. Calling All Crows
3. Doctor Ron The Actor
4. Arsenic & Clover
5. Bohemian Grove
6. Knights of Bostonia
7. Let It Go
8. Evolution
9. Held Up By The Wires
10. Blood Escaping Man
11. Still & Silent

State Radio will hit the road in support of Let It Go on September 30 in Norfolk, VA, and make a special stop in Austin on October 4 when they play Austin City Limits, sharing the day with artists like The Dead Weather, Ben Harper and the Relentless7, and Pearl Jam (full tour dates below). Tickets for the tour will be available pre-sale starting Thursday, July 16, and any fan who purchases a ticket online will receive a free digital album with their purchase.

The socio-political band will continue with their service projects in each of the cities during this tour and will encourage fans and locals within each community to join them via their recently launched humanitarian group Calling All Crows, which focuses on two goals: mobilizing musicians and their fans to get involved in public service and working to prevent violence against women through humanitarian relief, with its current focus on women in Darfur.

December 3, 2008 (New York, NY) – Punk rock reggae trio STATE RADIO have announced an early 2009 US tour that kicks off on January 14 in Tucson, AZ and wraps on February 21 in Providence, RI. The socio-politically conscious band has been on the road since early 2008 supporting their sophomore studio album Year Of The Crow (Ruff Shod/February 08), which Metro NY described as “a biting collection of 13 tracks taking aim at, among other things, U.S. detention facilities in Guantanamo Bay and policies in South America, not to mention Halliburton and the current state of affairs in Darfur.”

State Radio will play their last show of the year on December 26 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, and are calling it an early “welcome to the neighborhood” party for President Elect Barack Obama. Additionally, frontman Chad Stoke Urmston will play two rare, solo acoustic shows in his hometown of Boston on December 6 and 7 as part of a weeklong celebration leading up to the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10.

The band just wrapped their 24-city “Take Back The Country” tour with a sold out show at New York’s Terminal 5 over Thanksgiving weekend; the tour’s purpose was to spread the message of respect, fairness, justice and equality, leading up to the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The band has been documenting the tour and sharing live video with their fans along the way, from backstage footage to stage performances. (check it out here)

Prior to these dates, State Radio played with Rage Against The Machine at an anti-war rally at Denver’s Democratic National Convention, joined Tom Morello for a handful of dates on the “Justice Tour” and the Dave Matthews Band for a few shows, and appeared at most of the major U.S. festivals this summer including: Bonnaroo, Summerfest, Wakarusa, Rothbury Festival and Mile High Festival.

Currently, State Radio are in the studio working on their next album, set for release later next year. More information will follow shortly.

Review:

State Radio‘s Year of the Crow combines roots reggae, punk and rock music. The sound often varies from song to song, but the band’s talent and chemistry as musicians and songsmiths make the transitions relatively seemless.

The songs, infused with a critical bent toward political and social issues, will certainly stir-up a bit of controversy. They pull no punches with their unapologetic left-of-center views, using their music as tool to voice their desires for change. State Radio’s music has meaning and purpose, traits sorely missed in some of today’s populare fare.

This is a consistently solid album, and while there may only be a few songs that really grab you, this eclectic mix of sounds is supported by extremely compelling song writing throughout. The Story of Benjamin Darling Part 1, Omar Bay, and Wicker Plane are notable highlights.

Newport, RI

Each year, the Newport Yachting Center hosts the Sunset Music Festival. The scenery at the venue is breath-taking, as it is set up right on the waterfront and overlooks the harbor. Summertime in Newport brings many tourists from all over the globe, so you have to make sure you don’t accidentally run someone over while navigating through the narrow and windy roads.

Hometown shows are usually a blast. The crowds are full of friends and family, and so was the case when Monty Are I took to the stage. The venue has assigned seating, but the band called for everyone to get up and stand closer to stage. They began their set with high energy that sustained throughout the performance.

This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to see them perform live. What immediately struck me was how hard they worked to keep the performance lively and the crowd entertained. The band sounded great and a good time was had by all.

After the set the merch booth area was crowded with fans, friends, and family all waiting for their opportunity to speak with the band. Oh, and before I forget… to the fan who tried to grab Andrew Borstein’s ass while he wasn’t looking… yes, we saw you… should’ve grabbed it while you had the chance.

State Radio was up next. I was instantly impressed. The charisma this band brings to the stage, both in their music and their performance is incredible. The crowd’s overwhelming reaction was evidence of the substantial following this band is building up.

State Radio‘s music can be described as a mixture of reggae and progressive rock with underlying politically infused lyrics. But that description really only scratches the surface. There is a lot more to this band that really should be seen and heard in order to comprehend.

As we left the show we strolled down the avenue and peered out at all the boats on the harbor. Then we narrowly escaped being crushed by some asshole in a red Lexus rag-top as he backed his car into a nearby Mercedes. As we tried to wave him down, he then attempted to drive away, and crashed into the parking lot gate. I suppose the additional damage he caused to his car was cheaper than what I can only assume might have been a DUI citation. Tourists…
